Yeah, That’s Right. I Said It.

Crappy Webpage – Oh wait! The G-Rated “Stinker!”

Posted by thefinalcountdown on October 2, 2007

Do you remember back in the day when Al Gore first invented the internet? The excitement was abound! People realized that they could create webpages dedicated to the most obscure and meaningless things!

That was the day my friends, when one could look for a ’stinker’ page and be flooded in every direction by crap. Everywhere you turned there were pages with flashing backgrounds (my favorite are the ones in different colours that make you have a fist full of seizures) as well as blinking text and let’s not forget about 50 full sized images that you had to scroll through.

Alas, as we move forward in time through this high tech super highway (or whatever the ‘cool’ term is) we have found tools, much like the caveman found his chainsaw or rock or hammer, we the people of the world have found dreamweaver, geocities and run on sentences.

Because of this- I found this blog requirement to be a difficult. Why, I remember back in the day being unable to find one good webpage. Not one! In the past it was simple to find bad pages. So when we got this assignment I thought “Well, I’ll just look up something nerdy like back in the past- something anime!” Did that work?

No. Unfortunately the nerds of today are much savvier then the ones of the past. No longer are pages hosted on geocities, angelfire and tripod. No, everyone has domains now! They pay to advertise for series’! To give you every meaningless nuance and to slash, slash, slash away at their favorite pairings. (Slash for those of you who don’t know is to couple of same sex couples- it’s usually used to represent the men, though).

The pages now are very nice. So no matter how hard I tried to type in some random anime and find a horrible webpage (or just any other topic) the top hits now are good pages, unlike those of before.

What a conundrum! I speculated, tried to rack my brain for something amusing to showcase and in the end fell way short of what I’d been looking for. In desperate attempts I tried to find some of my old webpages to see if I could point out the hideous flaws. Sadly they had gone poof, like many of our civil liberties.

I did find this though: http://www.angelfire.com/anime/sailorsaturn9/

Once more AngelFire and Sailor Moon came through for me.

I have no idea who did this site but it is a bad one. I mean, I guess technically they are more apt at putting together a webpage than most of the people currently in this class (possibly myself included) but everything about it screams “Meh”.

Admittedly, a lot of this might have to do with the creator of the site themselves. Not only are they a regular nerd that is knee deep into D&D or what not- but this one appears to be a young teenage girl who is into anime and manga. Therefore, she feels the need to riddle her sentences with random Japanese words such as ‘onegai’ , ‘kawaii’, ‘ja ne’ and so on.

And of course she’s thrown herself into her favorite animes (and put this on her main page for some reason) and done absolutely nothing else with the page.

Ki Tenno’s House of Anime

‘Look- here’s my guestbook! Sign it!’ What should we sign? “Hey, thanks for making such a…what? This page has no purpose.”

A lot of the links don’t work, a lot of the pictures are broken and in general the page has no structure to it whatsoever! It’s kind of like some professor’s classes! (Not you)

Some of the pages have poems, just random poems about different parts of different shows. Use some frames, woman! Learn to use links! Don’t be so freakin’ lazy!

And let me freaking geek out here, damn it! Don’t ask me how I know any of this- but if you write ‘tribute to the scouts’ I expect you to mean that you’re writing about the Sailor Scouts from Sailor Moon.

Don’t write something about one sailor scout, and then toss in a completely different anime.

All the poems suck by the way. Maybe I’m more content oriented? Or it’s kind of like when you’re looking at a nice company brochure and you find one misspelling. You sort of go ‘oh, too bad, you’re all idiots’. Even if they aren’t, you know?
